    DOCK SPIDERS-NOT SO HARMLESS!!
Recently I was bitten by a dock spider while picking up an empty water bottle off the dock.I was bitten on the lower part of my thumb, close to the nail bed. within one or two minutes my thumb was swollen and stiff. It did not hurt, it just felt as if I had a cardboard splint on my finger.
The next day the swelling had gone down, but the finger was bruised. The bruising extended into the nail bed. The fang marks where clearly visible on the side of the finger, now they can still be seen inside the nail. For more INFO on dock spiders go to GOOGLE.
PLEASE DON'T KILL THE DOCK SPIDERS, THEY ARE FUN TO WATCH!!

I suspect that one of the spider's legs was trapped by your grasp. Dock spiders, left alone, ARE harmless. Anything will react if it feels it's life is threatened. I never kill dock spiders: there's too much enjoyment showing guests from the city what a REAL spider looks like !
